補聴器
An old man had been almost deaf for years, so he finally went to see a specialist. The doctor fitted him with a new hearing aid – a tiny, almost invisible one – and the man could suddenly hear perfectly.
A month later, he came back for a check-up.
"Your hearing is excellent," said the doctor. "Your family must be really pleased that you can hear again."
"Oh, I haven't told them," said the old man with a smile. "I just sit quietly in the living room and listen to their conversations."
He leaned forward. "I've changed my will three times."
長年、耳がほとんど聞こえなかったおじいさんが、とうとう専門医に診てもらうことにしました。医者はおじいさんに、小さくてほとんど目立たない新しい補聴器をつけてくれました。すると、とたんに何もかもはっきり聞こえるようになったのです。
ひと月後、おじいさんは検診に戻ってきました。
「聴力はばっちりですね」と医者は言いました。「また耳が聞こえるようになって、ご家族もさぞ喜んでいらっしゃるでしょう」
「いやいや、家族にはまだ言っておらんのですよ」とおじいさんはにこにこして言いました。「居間で黙って座って、みんなの話を聞いておるだけでね」
おじいさんは身を乗り出しました。「もう三回、遺言を書きかえましたわい」
