ポーカーをする犬
A man walked into a pub and noticed something strange in the corner. Four people were sitting round a table playing poker – and one of them was a dog.
The dog was holding his cards in his paws. He studied them carefully, pushed a few chips into the middle of the table and said, in a deep voice, "I'll raise you five."
The man couldn't believe it. He went over to the table and watched for a while. The dog won a hand, lost a hand, then won another one.
"That's incredible," the man said to the player sitting next to the dog. "I've never seen anything like it. That must be the smartest dog in the world!"
The player shook his head. "Nah, he's not that smart," he said. "Every time he gets a good hand, he wags his tail."
ある男がパブに入ると、店のすみで不思議な光景に気づきました。四人がテーブルを囲んでポーカーをしているのですが、そのうちの一人が犬なのです。
犬は前足でトランプを持ち、じっくりと手札を見てから、チップをいくつかテーブルの真ん中に押し出し、低い声で言いました。「5枚レイズだ」
男は信じられませんでした。テーブルのそばへ行って、しばらく見ていました。犬は一勝し、一敗し、それからまた勝ちました。
「すごいですね」と男は犬の隣に座っている人に言いました。「こんなの見たことがありません。世界一かしこい犬にちがいない！」
その人は首を振りました。「いやあ、そんなにかしこくはないよ」と彼は言いました。「いい手が来るたびに、しっぽを振っちまうんだから」
