The role Reporting to the General Manager, you'll lead our hire, yard and workshop teams, making sure our operations run efficiently and our customers get outstanding service. This is a hands-on, customer-facing role. You won't be sitting behind a desk all day. You'll be out where the action is – solving problems, making decisions and keeping the operation moving. Your main focus will be making sure our machines are ready when customers need them, well maintained and backed up by a great team. Key responsibilities: - Lead and support the hire, yard and workshop teams - Make sure equipment is cleaned, serviced and ready for hire - Manage servicing, maintenance, breakdowns and repairs, and keep downtime to a minimum - Resolve customer issues and make sure hire orders are turned around quickly - Improve our processes and systems to make the business more efficient - Encourage good communication between operations, sales and the workshop - Make sure all work is done safely and to company standards - Look for ways to cut costs and improve the customer experience - Build a positive, high-performing team culture About you: - Proven experience leading operational teams, ideally in equipment hire, construction, transport or logistics - A good understanding of heavy machinery and how it is maintained - A practical, mechanical mindset and the ability to troubleshoot problems - Excellent people leadership skills - Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships with customers, suppliers and staff at all levels - A calm, organised approach when things get busy or go wrong - The ability to make sound decisions under pressure - Good commercial awareness, balancing customer service, cost and compliance - A "can-do" attitude and a real desire to keep improving This role will suit someone who loves being in the thick of things – someone who can walk into the workshop, jump on a machine, talk to a customer, sort out a breakdown and then sit down with the team to fix the process that caused the problem in the first place.
