Once upon a time, there were three little pigs. When they were old enough, their mother sent them out into the world to make their own way. "Build yourselves strong houses," she told them, "and watch out for the wolf." The first little pig met a man carrying a bundle of straw. "Please may I have some straw to build a house?" he asked. The man gave him some, and the pig quickly built himself a house of straw. Then he lay down for a rest. Soon the wolf came along and knocked at the door. "Little pig, little pig, let me come in." "Not by the hair on my chinny-chin-chin!" "Then I'll huff, and I'll puff, and I'll blow your house in!" So the wolf huffed and he puffed, and he blew the house in. The little pig ran as fast as he could to his brother's house. The second little pig had built his house of sticks. The wolf followed and knocked at the door. "Little pigs, little pigs, let me come in." "Not by the hair on our chinny-chin-chins!" "Then I'll huff, and I'll puff, and I'll blow your house in!" So he huffed and he puffed, and the house of sticks came crashing down. The two little pigs ran off to their brother's house. The third little pig had worked hard all week. He had built his house of bricks, with a strong door and a big chimney. When his brothers arrived, he let them in and locked the door behind them. Then the wolf came. "Little pigs, little pigs, let me come in." "Not by the hair on our chinny-chin-chins!" "Then I'll huff, and I'll puff, and I'll blow your house in!" So he huffed and he puffed. He huffed and he puffed again. He huffed and puffed until he was red in the face, but the brick house didn't move at all. The wolf was furious. He climbed up onto the roof. "I'll come down the chimney and eat you all up!" he shouted. But the third little pig was ready. He had put a big pot of water on the fire, and it was boiling hard. The wolf slid down the chimney and landed – splash! – right in the pot. He leapt out with a howl, shot back up the chimney and ran off into the woods, and he never bothered the three little pigs again. After that, the three pigs lived happily together in the strong brick house.
